Bridges & Gateways Programs

SEXUAL OFFENDER RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT

At Copper Hills Youth Center (CHYC) we understand how difficult it is have a young man or woman who has sexually perpetrated on another child.  At CHYC, we believe that the impulsive cycle of victimizing other children sexually can be broken.  These adolescents range in age from 12-18 and have demonstrated repetitious sexual offenses and predatory or fixated patterns of offending.

We offer a program designed to meet the individual needs of these young men and women in a structured setting stressing the importance taking accountability for their actions.

CHYC provides two separate programs for male sex offenders which we call Bridges and a female sex offender program called Gateways.  Each program is completely separate from the other; however, core programming elements are similar and used in both programs.

Bridges

The framework of our program is designed around changing a young man's cognitive distortions or "thinking errors". When residents recognize true power and confidence come from experiencing success rather than victimizing, boys begin to make better choices.  Learning how to cope with anger; dealing with impulse control, moral reasoning refusal skills and how to coexist are only a few skills that the boys will be provided with.  Our goal is to help mend broken families, or teach the necessary skills to those young men moving on to independent living situations.

Pathfinders & Roadrunners Programs

Teenagers develop emotionally, physically and intellectually at different paces.

Specialized juvenile gender-specific programs we call "Bridges Pathfinders" treat male sex offenders at a High School Level.  "Bridges Roadrunners" are sex offenders treated at an Elementary School Level.

Bridges employ the following philosophies in treatment:

·         Deviant patterns of sexual arousal can be eliminated through planned cognitive behavior interventions.

·         Relapse prevention involves identification of the abuse cycle and specific strategies for utilizing adaptive coping mechanisms in stressful situations.

·         Individualized treatment to address specific objectives and goals.

·         Criminal thinking & sex offender group therapy.

·         Programming to teach identification of thinking errors, legal issues and victim empathy.

·         Family involvement draws connections to the dynamics of sexual perpetration behavior.

·         Comprehensive discharge and planning facilitates follow-up.

Gateways

Specialized juvenile gender-specific programs we call "Gateways" treat female sex offenders.  The unit is a sex offender gender specific treatment unit, centered on girls, ages 12-17. These adolescents range in educational and social abilities and have demonstrated repetitious sexual offenses and predatory or fixated patterns of offending.

We provide a safe, secure and structured environment that promotes change.  The girls in our program are diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder.  These young women exhibit severe emotional, behavioral, and psychiatric disorders. Many have medical needs and issues to address which are provided for on a continual basis.

We strive to recognize an individual's natural talents and embrace these qualities.

The role of the staff at Copper Hills Youth Center is to provide invested role models to emphasize social development while offering a unique educational environment. Learning how to cope with anger; dealing with impulse control, moral reasoning, refusal problems and learning how to coexist, are only a few skills the young girls in the Gateways program will be provided with.  Our goal is to help mend broken families, or teach the necessary skills to those unique young women moving on to independent living situations.
